SoCal, Lo K
And....breathe out. Cards wrap a division leader on the head, sure that division leader was the NL West-leading Padres, but nevertheless a division leader. High points that make you think not all is lost:
- Pujols must be feeling better, going 2-4 with a double and home run. Must be the acupuncture.
- Johnny come lately, John Gall goes 2-4 with a double and 2 runs scored. The 27 year old has been in the minors for his entire career, but his minor league stats aren't particularly awful. Watch those nails on the dugout stairs, buddy.
- Mulder was impressive in his unimpressivness once again last night. Five and two-thirds innings, 9 hits against, 2 earned runs. The perplexing strikeout ratio conintues, 1K and 3 BB. His pitch count was high, 110 pitches, 61 for strikes. 8 ground outs to 6 pop outs is a tad bit high, but he's on the right side of the ledger at any rate. Whatever Duncan's got him doing, it's alright by me. The Birdwatch noted that the low K guy can do alright in the playoffs, so some worry fades away.
- Nunez got in on two DPs, continuing to make the case that he's a suitable replacement (albeit temporary) for number 27. Two strikeouts though, ouch!
All in all, we'll take it. More to come later, must rush off for meeting.
Ryan: Hope your meeting is with Jocketty! You know, at this point, we just have to take every win as a gift. This is a good team; but will it ever be a great team, with all these injuries? Let's just go one game at a time. We'll start worrying about the sexond week in September!Post a Comment
